Question :
Having trouble getting a replacement key or even a spare key made for company Freightliner. The problem is even when I go into the hardware store, they do not have the key type. Is there an easy way to get a extra truck key made?
Answer:
Freightliners blank keys with or without Chip are not commonly found in hardware stores and not every locksmith mobile or not will carry them.
Your choices would be either a Freightliner dealer of which you will have to find a way to get your Freightliner, AND NOT TO MENTION THE COST OF IT ALL. your second BEST option is to call AKM Auto Key masters an auto locksmith in Charlotte NC and surroundings. knowledgeable, professional car locksmith would carry in his mobile unit all of the right car key blanks including freightliners and all other heavy duty trucks as well as all the advance equipment and programmers to cut the key and if needed to program the key as well.
[lead]Tip: for all the Freightliners owners or drivers[/lead]who happens to read this article: next time you’re at one of your companies terminals make a call to a local and professional locksmith and have them duplicate your freightliner key. One stays in the truck at all times and one on you all the time. it will save you money and precious time. Remember not everyone can just make these keys.
Question:
I bought a used Sprinter that only came with one key, so off to the Dodge dealer to get a new one. I tried to order a “flat” key i.e. the key without the auto lock/unlock transmitter. They ended up only ordering the flat blade replacement for the transmitter fob. It will unlock my doors, but not start the engine . The guys at the Dodge Dealership couldn’t explain it; I assume this is because the replacement blade doesn’t have the “chip” coded to my vehicle. Is there anyone who could actually make a Mercedes Sprinter key that I can use on my van ? a car key that will be cut and coded. Or do I have to order through the dealer and wait an un defined time than pay for the key alone about $300 without all the additional key programming etc. ? Any ideas appreciated.
